MARY ANNE HOBBS joined Groovement in the back room of Hoya Hoya’s third birthday party at the Roadhouse in Manchester, where together with Hudson Mohawke she formed the mystery element of this time’s Secret Series (five nights of unadvertised and unannounced headliners). Mary Anne had previously worked with Hoya when she played at their Warehouse Project curation. We hooked up before her set to chat post-Radio 1 life, her contribution to Black Swan and Hoya Hoya.

Matt and Phred’s Jazz Club saw another excellent booking in February with the arrival of ARIYA ASTROBEAT ARKESTRA to the stage – nine members filled up the stage and I haven’t seen the venue that full… well, ever. A lovely bunch of chaps and deserving of big things, the lads came together after working disparately on a number of projects in the Leeds/First Word fam. Awareness of their self titled album continues to grow since its release as they fill up venues everywhere.
