Fingathing X Groovement // 6DEC10
December 07, 2010 02:55 PM PST
It's about bloody time we heard from FINGATHING aka SNEAKY and PETER PARKER (minus illustrator extraordinnaire CHRIS DRURY) - although Sneaky now lives in Berlin he'd been in Manchester for a bit to play a stonkin' live show at Matt & Phred's Jazz Club, so Groovement collared him and Peter Parker to come and play with toys and put a little podcast together. Brand new album UNDEAD (working title) is due for release around April time, so here we have a couple of world exclusive previews from that in accompaniment to a lush selection from the lads. Excuse the occasional crackle, Serato was being ridiculous. Support Sneaky's vinyl release campaign here: http://thisissneaky.co.uk

Star Slinger currently resides down the road from Groovement Towers in Manchester, so nipped round to record this of a Sunday afternoon. I'd heard bits and bobs of his stuff over the past few months and it's deep. Here's a quick summary of things: * Working on the Teams Vs Star Slinger project out early 2011 on Mexican Summer

He’s currently working on his new album as well as a slew of remixes for heads such as YULT, Theophilus London and Stac. Keep up to date on his goings on by visiting his website above. Presented by Agent J – this is the first show NOT on Unity Radio since Groovement started in October 2007 (three years ago exactly, numbers fans). Big plans are afoot for Phase Two of Groovement Radio, plans where Groovement can continue to support the thriving and inspirational music scene in Manchester and beyond, something which we would not have been able to do to our desired standard had we stuck within the restrictions of a proto-commercial FM licence. It also means we can bring the focus back onto Manchester at an international rather than solely local level, through podcasting. For now, though, it’s back to basics. GROOVEMENT 25OCT10 TRACKLISTING

It really has been the Mouse Outfit's year in 2009. The many-faceted live hip hop funk band have made audiences get on up across the country, so much so that they have appeared at BBC Introducing and supported the likes of Speech Debelle, Gentlemen's Dub Club and Akil out of Jurassic 5. Here one of the main Mouse protaganists, producer and keys man Chini, takes you through some of his influences as well as his own beats: a veritable selection of hip hop, soul and more to whittle away a couple of hours to... The 8Bitch resides in Glasgow and makes bass. Groovement's been trying to squeeze a podcast out of her for ages and is very pleased to present what popped out the other day. She's been getting a great reception to her own music of late from the likes of the Wire (at least I think it was good? There were some pretty long words in there...) so we're chuffed to catch her before she blows up into the stratosphere. Enjoy with Buckfast. www.myspace.com/thisis8bitch

November 07, 2009 06:47 AM PST
Returning this year with a massively soul-tinged LP 'Of All The Things', Jazzanova held down a two-night residency at Manchester's newly-reopened Band on the Wall venue. 48 dates and counting with the full live band the lads were about ready for a break but still found the time to have a post-gig chat with Agent J of Groovement, bringing along Detroit mainman Paul Randolph, who provided honeysoul drenched vocals for the evening. Recorded October 2009 @ Band on the Wall, Manchester UK. Groovement: Ras G InterviewNovember 02, 2009 02:18 PM PST

BORN WITH TEETH, Crowhead's debut album for Aim's label ATIC records, has dropped recently and here's a smattering of tunes and commentary to go with it. Crowhead's previous Groovement podcast was one of the most well-received we'e done and he hasn't disappointed for the second. '92 rave styles meet classic hip hop meets chilled vibes, all sprinkled with treats from Crowhead's new LP and Bsides to the 12-inches that have been released so far. Well, well, well... a couple of weeks after joining us in the studio with Brackles, Daedelus returns to our humble Manchester studio with a special friend in tow in the form of the MotherFucking Gaslamp Killer. Jonny Dub of Hoya Hoya kicks us off with some typical Hoya fatness before Daedelus digs out his UK purchases and spins us some scratchy vinyl. Gaslamp drops some ill and upfront shit from his iPhone while Illum Sphere gets a late train in to finish us off. MONSTER of a show, and a direct result of Hoya KILLING it at the Warehouse Project the night before. The only way is up, gentlemen. Originally broadcast on www.UnityRadio.fm on Sunday 25th October 2009. Groovement: Speech Debelle
October 26, 2009 09:26 AM PDT
I caught up with Speech Debelle a couple of weeks after her Mercury win. I was initially anticipating interview overload on her part but to her credit we had an enjoyable little chat about hip hop, education and Mcdonald's amongst other things. She played Night & Day Cafe in Manchester following our natter, and certainly delivered the goods in terms of performance and audience interaction. Considering the Mercury win and small venue however, I was a bit gutted to see the place wasn't rammed - what does a hip hopper have to do to fill a place out, eh? Groovement: Wah Wah 45s : We Wah Ten! hosted by Dom Servini
October 14, 2009 12:56 PM PDT
You know, I've got a very soft spot indeed for Wah Wah 45s. Been buying them for years in fact, in their little blue and white sleeves with a little contact number on the back and that naughty little logo. You just know that each piece of wax has been chosen specifically to convey a musical mesage, not cos it's some shit remix or the like. So big ups to the label that 'promises all the right records, but not necessarily in the right order'. Dom Servini & Simon Goss (with guidance from brother Chris) deliver twisted blue-eyed soul, future boogie, Hungarian funk, and Brit folk like you've never heard before... as the myspace says. Here is a WONDERFUL podcast from Main Man Dom Servini to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Wah Wah and indeed its associated shinding at the Scala in London. Groovement is very proud to host this... kick back, dim the lights and swoon to the lusicous tones of Mr Dom Servini... TRACKLISTING

Enjoy! Groovement: Ben Webster (Ital Sounds)March 28, 2009 04:52 AM PDT
The Duke moved to Sheffield in 2007 and started in radio with the 'Dub Revolution' show (SureRadio) which blasted out reggae, dub, ska and conspiracy theories as and when they were needed (frequently). He then began DJing under the title of 'The Ital Duke' around Sheffield and started the 'Ital Sounds' show (forgeradio.com), this time as himself - Ben Webster - in 2008, which serves up a hearty portion of Reggae, Dub and Ska with extra Dubstep, Hip-Hop, Soul and anything else Ital every Thursday evening. Groovement hooked up with the Duke when he was spinning at one of the Colonel's legendary gigs in Sheffield, saw the fire in his eyes and got him on here! Enjoy... http://www.forgeradio.com

Jimmy Screech warmed up for Ugly Duckling at the Ruby Lounge in Manchester, and Groovement was on hand to grab him for a niiice interview. Despite being flu-ridden and frankly knackered mate, Jimmy was more than happy to shoot the shit with Groovement - also along for the ride were Gordon G, who heads up the Banana Klan label with Roots Manuva. Gibbs, he of the fold-away keyboard, and DJ Mr Cosmo provided the remaining ambience. Enjoy, this Groovement is both informative and pretty funny. Recorded February 2009. Groovement: Riot Jazz

Groovement: Rockers Revolt
July 28, 2008 03:45 PM PDT
ROCKERS REVOLT: THE STORY SO FAR Rockers Revolt is a record label set up by UK dub collective Pama Intl. Pama includes in its line up Sean Flowerdew, Finny and Lynval Golding (of The Specials), all of whom can be heard talking about the tour and label in this podcast. Inspired by the great independent labels; Stax, Studio One, Stiff Records and a deep-rooted DIY philosophy. What started out as being the outlet for Pama Intl's own material, has grown into a burgeoning home for the finest soul-fueled reggae, ska, rocksteady, dub & roots artists from the UK and abroad. In Summer 2008 Rockers Revolt upped sticks and took to the road for the REGGAE FOR THE PEOPLE tour including PAMA INTL, THE SLACKERS, THE PIETASTERS with MUNGO'S HI FI between bands. Agent J chased up the REGGAE FOR THE PEOPLE tour over in Sheffield, UK and sat down with members of Pama, Mungos and the Slackers. Come join us for insights into the Specials reunion, Lynval's Duffy love, Pama's TROJAN experience and the world of an independent label. Listen out for contributions from Groovement veteran Kwasi, on the tour as MC for Mungo's! TRACKLISTING

This was a seriously bizarre night... after watching the RZA MC with his DJ Kevvy Kev to launch Futuresonic, with around 25 people present, Rich Reason and Jonny Dub led the way for us all to catch the one and only Roots Manuva at the Mint Lounge. RZA and crew enjoyed the Mint Lounge veggie patties while the New Bohemia boys, who presented the night, sorted Groovement an interview with the man Rodney. Short but sweet, here'yare... Thanks to New Bohemia for sorting the interview, and having the passion to put on events in the first place - www.myspace.com/newbohemia Originally broadcast 4th May 2008.
