Earn your ticket to the hottest gig of the year through volunteering!

Where: Aubert Court

When: Wednesday 22nd September

What: In one of the last few projects of the Orange RockCorps London 2010 programme 75 fantastically fired up volunteers set about transforming the community centre at Aubert Court in Arsenal. While the sun shone and DJ Rash worked some magic on the decks Orange RockCorps volunteers decorated the community centre inside and out, painted a beautiful mural wall and turned weeds and scrub land into wonderful beds where the residents of Aubert can now plant flowers and vegetables.

Best moment: Hearing that the work our volunteers had done in 4 hours would have taken Aubert Court staff 4 years to complete!

Oasis Go Kart 22.9.2010

Where: Oasis Go Kart

What: A massive group of excited Orange RockCorps volunteers rocked up to Oasis Go Kart track this afternoon ready to get to work. Everyone who came along got well and truly stuck in to their work and managed to give the racing track a well deserved make over. DJ Phat came down and helped create an awesome party atmosphere as he dropped some massive tunes and made sure everyone was dancing as they got the work done.

All of the tasks completed today will make a massive difference to the Oasis Go Kart Centre and the work of all who came along was hugely appreciated by our charity partners Jess and T.C. who were overwhelmed with the end result.

Best Moment: A group of volunteers enjoyed earning their tickets so much that they have decided to help out more regularly in their local communities and are going to sign up for The Collective to receive further rewards for volunteering.

Tower Hamlets Cemetry Park 21.9.2010

Volunteers earn their gig ticket!

Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park

When:Tuesday 21st September

What: Over 80 volunteers worked incredibly hard to give the old railings around the park a fresh lick of paint and a lease of life. It was a brilliant project made even more special by the slightly creepy feeling that set in as the volunteers realised it was becoming very dark while they got their graft on in an old graveyard!

Funniest Moment: The projects team all having to wear headlamps as they handed out the tickets!

Pooles Park Primary 19.9.2010

Where: Pooles Park Primary School

When: Sunday 19th September 2010

What: 130 volunteers swooped into Pooles Park Primary School to work a bit of Orange RockCorps magic. Group 1 got stuck in transforming the garden area and sieving compost. Group 2 brightened up the playground with some gloss, wood stain and gardening. Groups 3,4,5 and 6 got their creative juices flowing and produced the most canvases we’ve ever attempted on a RockCorps project! The pupils of the school will be thrilled when they return to school on Monday to check out everyone’s hard work!

Best Moment: Group 1 storming through their tasks and doing a months worth of work in four hours!

Gallions Primary 19.9.2010

Gallions
DJ Trimer takes time out from spinning vinyl to flash a big smile for the camera!

Where: Gallions Primary School

When: Sunday 19th September

What: An astounding 105 of you beautiful volunteers came down to Gallions Primary. We had an amazing day, with crazy beats played by the unstoppable DJ Trimer and volunteers got through an insane amount of work. Volunteers painted the climbing frame, built a nature walk, scrubbed dirty windows and spruced up the plant beds with a bit of weeding. The sun ducked in and out of cover, but all in all it was an amazing day.

Best moment: Everyone skanking out to the one and only DJ Trimer who kept spirits high with his eclectic jam of Drum N Bass, Dub step and UK Funky!

Lifeshare Youth Centre 18.9.2010

Lifeshare
Project Coordinator Tyrell blends in at Lifeshare!

Where: Lifeshare Centre

When: Saturday 18th September PM

What: A fantastic group of volunteers descended on the Lifeshare Centre today in Kingston. They absolutely smashed it, helping out this wicked charity that provides a safe place for young people to hang out and receive educational classes. This resource is so important to the community and volunteers gave it a new lease of life by designing murals, painting the interior and decorating the sports hall.

Best moment: Hanging out with the enthusiastic Gary, the head of the Lifeshare Centre, who was absolutely thrilled with all the results!

Mile End Park 18.9.2010

The Orange RockCorps crew rock their shades during relaxation period just before the project starts!

Where: Mile End Park

When: Saturday 18th September

What: A team of 242 fantastic Orange RockCorps volunteers transformed Mile End Park. This amazing community space is comprised of breathtaking green areas which lie around the River Thames. Orange RockCorps volunteers stained wooden railings, weeded flower beds, cleared paths, fished weeds from the pond area and cleared the place of lots of nasty litter!

We had an amazing time in the sunshine working away to the beats of one of our favourite DJs Nimble Fingers.

Funniest Moment: Some animal friendly volunteers rescuing the frogs they found.

Venture Centre 15.9.2010

Venture Centre

Where: Venture Centre

When: Wednesday 15th September AM

What: A very hard working group of volunteers got stuck in at the Venture Centre in West London. It is a fantastic resource for the local community that supplies free classes, meals and education as well as a brilliant adventure playground for all of the local children. Group 1 did an amazing job on some beautiful signs to put up all around the centre, featuring Venture’s brand new logo. Group 2 made an impressive mosaic, taking inspiration from the large Moroccan community around the centre and group 3 brightened up the playground walls with a beautiful Moroccan blue colour.

Funniest moment: The volunteers worked so hard they completed all the planned work within 2 hours. We had to find more work for them to do, including painting benches and more walls and even wooden bins! The centre were very very happy with all the work done!

Where: Sands End Adventure Project, Fulham

What: Volunteers gave a fresh lease of life to the tired Sands End Adventure Playground with a bright spanking new lick of paint!

Best Moment: Charity partner Mike was so happy by the sight of what the 47 Rockcorps Volunteers had achieved at Sands End Youth and Community Centre that two volunteers; Petergaye and Ola have been invited back next summer to teach Salsa and Basketball!

New Leaf 16.9.2010

Mark Ronson mucks in with volunteers Giving his 4 hours shoveling unwanted leaves at New Leaf!

Where: New Leaf Path of Natural Knowledge, West Dulwich

When: Thursday 16th September

What: What an amazing day, a strong turn out of 42 volunteers, including Mark Ronson himself, gave 168 hours ploughing through all kinds of amazing tasks. From laying a new path in the beautiful Belair Park, to preparing the ground for New Leaf’s Path of knowledge, a space running along the side of West Dulwich Rail station and Belair Park, boasting a variety of plants from the Jurassic era to the present day.

Our Volunteers cracked through all their work even when the clouds gathered and the rain lashed down, their spirits kept up by the banging tunes played by the amazing DJ Phat.

Funniest Moment: Orange RockCorps volunteer Cookie eyeing up a puddle and dropping the ultimate line of “I ain’t going in that water this Cookie will crumble.”

What: 36 Orange RockCorps volunteers worked tirelessly at the amazing North Dulwich Nursery Garden. Feeling truly inspired by the wonderful work which will be done when the nursery garden is up and running, the Orange RockCorps volunteers cleared the rubble and undergrowth from the entire site.

Where: Stepney City Farm

When: Sunday September 12th 2010

What: An impressive army of 77 Orange RockCorps volunteers donned their wellies and worked their magic on Stepney City Farm. While some volunteers brightened up the whole farm by painting a range of new fences and sheds, a group of the most green fingered amongst us created a remarkable rockery, which has now aptly been named Snowcap Mound!

Funniest moment: The look on the faces of our volunteers when they discovered the remnants of a horse burial!

Volunteer Adam takes a well earned nap after Giving his 4 hours!


Volunteers lift the biggest pile of hay and straw ever, before throwing themselves into it!

Where: Lea Valley Regional Park

When: Sunday 12th September

What: An astounding 82 Orange RockCorps volunteers rolled up at Lea Valley Regional Park to give their 4 hours! Volunteers ripped, teared, forked, raked, sawed and pulled their way through the overgrown brambles and weeds in the disused filter beds. The sun beat down on our volunteers' necks but they pushed through and got loads and loads done!

Sommerville Adventure Playground 11.9.2010

Sommerville

Where: Sommerville Adventure Playground

When: Saturday 11th September

What: A group of 60 excited Orange RockCorps volunteers rocked up at Sommerville Adventure Playground this morning eager to get to work. Sommerville provides a fun and safe environment for local children to play and learn. Despite the overcast weather everyone grafted hard all day and managed to completely transform the area by clearing out all of the overgrown foliage and decorating dull walls with an awesome star mural. The DJ dropped some massive tunes keeping volunteer’s dancing as they worked and creating an amazing atmosphere.

Best Moment: Mucking in alongside the staff of Sommerville, who were eager to get involved!

Rising Tide 11.9.2010

Rising Tide

When: Saturday 11th September

Where:Rising Tide Recording Studio

What: Today a whopping 50 volunteers cruised down to Rising Tide Recording Studio, and Gave 4 hours of their time sprucing the building up, painting the walls in the studios, and transforming the tired corridor with a bright new paint job. There was good spirits all round with volunteers dancing and singing to the tunes of DJ Darby as they worked.

Best Moment: Watching everybody come together to clean up with trash bags flying everywhere, paint trays being scrubbed, brushes being washed and masking tape being pulled from walls!

Markfield Park 9.9.2010

Where: Markfield Park

When: Thursday 9th September 2010

What: 70 Orange RockCorps volunteers transformed Markfield Park in Haringey. Volunteers cut back overgrown hedges and weeds to reveal the attractive fences beneath. Once the gardening element of the project was out of the way Orange RockCorps volunteers set about painting the fence in a shiny new coat of black gloss. The finished result made a drastic difference to the park and will be enjoyed and appreciated by all who visit this beautiful area in the future.

Funniest Moment: A volunteer high jacking a skateboard from a willing passerby and pulling out some brilliant moves around the park’s bandstand.

Blenheim Gardens 8.9.2010

Orange RockCorps volunteers give a perfect rendition of Umbrella by Rihanna, in the rain!

Where: Blenheim Gardens Park

When: Wednesday 8th September 2010

What: Over 70 Orange RockCorps volunteers braved the extreme weather conditions and removed skiploads of weeds from the Blenheim Gardens estate in Brixton. Despite the huge downpour, each group was able to weed the grass and turn soil in all the islands which ran through the estate.

Funniest Moment: Half way through the torrential rain, one of the girls burst into song, belting out Umbrella by Rihanna; her rendition was perfect and lifted everyone’s spirits!

Forty Hall Vineyard 8.9.2010

Orange RockCorps volunteer Elliotte busts a lung with this amazing rendition!

Where: Forty Hall Vineyard

When: Wednesday 8th September

What: An astounding 59 volunteers trundled down to Forty Hall to help us weed and mulch their newly constructed vineyard. Our volunteers toiled through the blustery weather, working the ground and laying over 15 tonnes of mulch!

The 236 man hours Given allows Forty Hall to begin planning for their release of London’s first organic wine, to go on sale in 2012.

Even more amazing, is that the work we did today will be the start of a cycle to last 50 -60 years!

Funniest Moment: Seeing one of our volunteers skipping through the aisles of grapevines with two buckets full of mulch without a care in the world!

ELHAP 4.9.2010

Where: ELHAP Adventure Playground

When: Saturday 4th September 2010

What: On yet another huge double project, well over 200 Orange RockCorps volunteers transformed an adventure playground used by children and young adults with disabilities.

Volunteers designed a welcoming mural at the entrance to the playground. Meanwhile a group of mechanic-minded volunteers designed a car-workshop mural under the long wooden walk ways, which were themselves painted in bold bright colours. The final group of volunteers planted an engaging sensory garden and skipped a huge amount of weeds and unwanted plant life.

Burgess Park 5.9.2010

Where: Burgess Park

When: Sunday 5th September 2010

What: 60 Orange RockCorps volunteers waged war on the undergrowth in Camberwell’s Burgess Park. Volunteers cleared and defined paths, picked up litter and fearlessly tackled brambles and other plant life that had taken over the nature area. The result: brand spanking new paths for Camberwell’s local residents and visitors alike to explore the nature area and hope to catch a glimpse of the wildlife that lives there.

Funniest moment: The random things we found in the bushes! – including fireworks, stereos and an ants’ nest!
