There is of course, no absolute silence on Earth (vacuums aside. Although Groovement Cat hates the noise of the hoover), and that is one of the points of this piece of ‘silence’. MR SCRUFF’s done a remix of the track that quite a lot of people would like to be Xmas Number One in the snappily-titled CAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE campaign.

Cage Against the Machine..’4.33′ Mr. Scruff Remix! by Mr Scruff

Scruff says: “When I was asked to remix the re-recording of John Cage’s ’4.33′, it was suggested that the remix be 4.33 of ambient noise from of my life at a given time. That, however, seemed to be more of a cover version that a remix. I received the request on Friday 26th November, whilst soundchecking for my DJ set at Leamington Assembly. I had already set up 2 ambient mics for recording the crowd noise at my gig, so I secretly recorded a short period of time just before the gig started, the ‘calm before the storm’ if you will, when the crew were running around, doing final checks & tidying up. That was my cover version. Then I sequenced & manipulated the bits of conversation, air conditioner hum, clonks, bangs, mumbles & other background noise to make this remix. Thanks to the featured ‘musicians’ from my tour crew & the venue!”

They got their set with the TNC boys for us. They performed this at BandOnTheWall a few months ago when they supported Saul Williams, so if you missed that awesome evening here’s a second chance.

They are also bringing the MOF house band down to do their acoustic live set, so expect all that usual madness simmered down, stipped back (a little) and maybe just maybe, a few tender moments.

Add to that a few of the boys bringin some favourite “vinyl discs” and we will be treated to a real broad plate of tasty MindOnFire goodness.

It’s about bloody time we heard from FINGATHING aka SNEAKY and PETER PARKER (minus illustrator extraordinnaire CHRIS DRURY) – although Sneaky now lives in Berlin he’d been in Manchester for a bit to play a stonkin’ live show at Matt & Phred’s Jazz Club, so Groovement collared him and Peter Parker to come and play with toys and put a little podcast together. Brand new album UNDEAD is due for release around April time, so here we have a couple of world exclusive previews from that in accompaniment to a lush selection from the lads.

So FINGATHING just left in the Fingathingmobile after recording a podcast at Groovement Towers. Groovement Cat got locked in the bedroom as Peter Parker had to go on the anti histemines and was frankly already looking quite rough anyway. And it really is time for a new laptop – we’ve had more Serato crashes than trams have hit Wetherfield tonight. Massive thanks to Sneaky and PP for making the journey, especially as Sneaks has to fly back to Berlin tomorrow. It was great to hear two new exclusives from the upcoming album, which is looking at an April release, and loads more choice tunes too.
